Presentation Service

WILLIAM GRANT STILL
"A Voice High Sounding"

A slide-lecture by Judith Anne Still on the life, career and triumphs
of American composer and conductor, William Grant Still.

During a special slide presentation of rare photographs from the
William Grant Still archives, Judith Anne Still, the composer's daughter,
will reveal the intimate details of the composer's unusual and very eventful career.

Over 100 slide photographs will be shown dealing with Still's life, from his birth to
the descendants of slaves, to his contributions to the history of the Blues and to
early radio, to his groundbreaking work as a conductor and as a composer of
grand opera, to his association with other Afro-Americans and noted musicians,
then to his death in Los Angeles in 1978.  A 60-minute program.
(Order #B137)

TESTIMONIAL
"...Thank you for telling the story... The story is important and you are the only one
who could tell it--charm, wit, and the undeniable credibility of a person who lived it.
...There is so much to take away.  ...Great people are born, much of their final
form already shaped, and then they're tested in the kiln of experience.  Your father
certainly felt that heat, and instead of being hardened, emerged stronger, with
an amazing luster, a deep, reflecting finish, and capable of carrying so much.
...Thank you, again, for being with us and for spending so much quality
time with the CSO."
--Chattanooga Symphony & Opera
